Difference between IC611 and IC616 in high voltage motor cooling method

Cooling methods 611 and 616 are two of the more common methods in air-to-air cooled high voltage motors, but what is the difference between the two cooling methods? How to correctly select the cooling method of the motor? This kind of problem makes a lot of motor customers are very confused, motor selection is not very good choice.

The letter code IC is the English abbreviation for International Cooling. The motor cooling method code is mainly composed of the cooling method symbol (IC), the circuit arrangement code of the cooling medium, the code of the cooling medium and the code of the promotion method of the cooling medium movement.

The first digit after the IC code is the circuit arrangement code of the cooling medium, 6 means that the motor is equipped with an external cooler and the medium in the surrounding environment, the primary cooling medium circulates in the closed circuit, and through the external cooler installed on the top of the motor, the heat generated by the motor operation is transferred to the surrounding environment.

Motors equipped with air-to-air coolers, where the cooling medium is air, are designated as A, which is omitted in the designation description, and the medium of both cooling methods, IC611 and IC616, is air.

The second and third digits in the designation are the push mode designations for the primary and secondary cooling media, respectively, where:

The number “1″ refers to the medium in the self-circulation process, the cooling medium movement and motor speed, or due to the role of the rotor itself, but also by the role of the rotor dragged by the overall fan or pump, prompting the medium to move.

The number “6″ means that the medium needs to be driven by an external independent component, driven by an independent component mounted on the motor to drive the movement of the medium, the power required by the component is not related to the speed of the host computer, such as a backpack fan or fan, etc.
Comparison from the motor shape, IC611′s motor non-axial extension end is equipped with an independent fan rotating at the same time as the motor rotor, and together with the radiator mounted on the top of the motor to form the motor’s heat dissipation system, do not need to be equipped with an independent fan; IC616 cooling mode motors, the cooler is equipped with an independently operated fan, and the motor needs to be independently powered and work with the motor at the same time when the motor is running, and the cooling effect of this cooler is independent from the The cooling effect of this cooler has nothing to do with the speed of the motor. Inverter motors can only be configured with coolers according to IC616, while industrial frequency motors can be selected according to actual demand.
